It's a clash of the NBA's best as the Oklahoma City Thunder host the San Antonio Spurs on Thursday night TNT.
Head to head, the Spurs are 1-9-1 ATS in the last 11 meetings and 0-6 ATS in the last 6 meetings in Oklahoma City while the home team is 8-3-1 ATS in the last 12 meetings and the favorite is 8-3-1 ATS in the last 12 meetings. The Thunder are 13-3 ATS in their last 16 home games vs. a team with a road winning % of greater than .600, 6-1-2 ATS in their last 9 home games and 10-3-1 ATS in their last 14 vs. NBA Southwest. The Spurs are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games playing on 0 days rest, 10-1 ATS in their last 11 road games and 17-5 ATS in their last 22 games overall.
You could make a pretty compelling case for either the Oklahoma City Thunder or the San Antonio Spurs tonight. As far as the Spurs are concerned, well, they own the league's best record and they have a chance to finish the regular season with 66 wins, provided they win each of thier last eight games, including tonight. It's going to be a tough ask for OKC, considering the Spurs come into tonight's showdown riding a lazy 18-game winning streak. Given their recent streak, the Thunder now find themselves just four games back of the league-leading Spurs. The Thunder and the Clippers are potentially the only other team that can finish in the 60's in the win column.
As far as recent meetings go, Kevin Durant and company have had their fair share of success over the Spurs lately, winning four straight and five of six, not just straight up but against the spread as well. The Thunder were victories in the last two showdown's, which were in San Antonio, and they have an average winning margin of just over 10 points per contest over their those last five.
The Spurs will be playing a game on Wednesday night at home against Golden State, who were coming off a thrilling overtime win in Dallas on Tuesday night, so it remains to be seen how fresh San Antonio will be tonight. Having said that, they are 4-0 against the spread in their last four games playing on zero days rest.
San Antonio extended their winning streak to 19 with a comfortable victory over Golden State last night, can they make it 20 tonight? I don't think they get their. They clearly don't play well against the Thunder, as evidenced by their previous meeting. I think Durant and company are too much tonight and should cover this extremely low spread....
