The New York Knicks and the Washington Wizards face off on Friday at Madison Square Garden in a battle of Eastern Conference playoff teams.
It has been a rough season at times for the New York Knicks but they have played their way into the eighth playoff spot in the Eastern Conference though that spot in anything but sewn up. The Knocks are 17-21 at home this season, 7-3 in their last 10 games, and are two one-hundredths of a percentage point ahead of the Atlanta Hawks. Carmelo Anthony leads New York averaging 28 points and 8.2 rebounds per game. J.R. Smith is averaging 13.7 points, Amar’e Stoudemire is averaging 11.6 points, and Tim Hardaway Jr. is averaging 10.1 points. The Knicks are averaging 98.6 points per game and they are shooting 44.9 percent including 37.1 percent from beyond the three-point arc while defensively they are allowing 99.7 points and their opponents are shooting 45.9 percent. With their tenuous playoff positioning every game will be a must win from here on in for the Knicks.

The Washington Wizards have locked up a spot in the playoffs in the Eastern Conference but as far as seeding there are still many possibilities where they may end up. The Wizards are currently in sixth position and they are 19-19 on the road this season and 5-5 in their last 10 games. John Wall leads Washington averaging 19.8 points and 8.7 assists per game. Bradley Beal is averaging 16.9 points, Trevor Ariza is averaging 14.8 points and 6.3 rebounds, and Marcin Gortat is averaging 13 points and 9.4 rebounds. As a team the Wizards are averaging 100.9 points and they are shooting 45.7 percent including 38.8 percent from beyond the three-point arc while defensively they are allowing 100 points and their opponents are shooting 46 percent. The Wizards look to have a nice core of young talent and are a franchise headed in the right direction.
New York is 4-1 against the spread in their last five games, 4-1 against the spread against a team with a winning record, and 5-0 against the spread following a win by 10 or more points. Washington is 4-10 against the spread in their last 14 games, 2-7 against the spread against a team with a losing record, and 0-4 against the spread following a win. The favorite has covered the point spread in five of the last seven meetings of these two.
The total looks to be going down but that is only making me like the over more as that was my original play here before the numbers dropped.
I also have a play on the winning side and I will post that in the Premium Area as well as on the App.
