San Antonio Spurs vs. Portland Trail Blazers - 5/14/14

The Portland Trail Blazers were my team this year, so it hurts me to think that their season will come to an end tonight, which it will. While they did win by double-digits in Game 4, that result shouldn’t really surprise anyone because after all, they were at home facing elimination. They have been far too good this season to be swept out of the playoffs. So can they make a game of it tonight? Well, if you go back and look at the first three games of this series, the answer would be no. The San Antonio Spurs were pretty much flawless in the first three games, winning each by an average of 18.6 points per game. They also won the last regular season meeting against the Blazers in San Antonio 103-90.

With those results aside, you have to realize that the Spurs are a veteran squad, so wrapping up the series tonight would ensure they get a lot of rest while they wait for the winner of Oklahoma City and Los Angeles series, who will likely go a Game 7. The last thing San Antonio wants to do is travel back to Portland for a Game 6 and then a potential Game 7 if need be.

While it wouldn’t shock me to see the Trail Blazers give it their all tonight and hang around in the final minutes, I have to think the Spurs come out like they did in Games 1&2 and take care of business. Portland just can’t slow down San Antonio’s offense as they scored 116, 114 and 118 points in the first three games. I hope the Blazers prove me wrong, but I see another double-digit win for the Spurs here...
