2013-14 Season: 19.2 PPG-6.0 RPG-5.9 APG
Strengths: Great quickness and very good crossover that allows him to penetrate to the basket. Has good size and strength and 6-7 wingspan that presents issues for opponents at both ends of the floor. Excels defensively with quick hands while a sharp passer and very good rebounder. Gets to the line at a high rate and presents match up issues for bigger or smaller players.
Weakness: Decent shooter but inconsistent and has to improve in that area especially from long range. Although he averaged 9.5 trips to the line he shot under 70%. Seldom uses his left hand and is prone to erratic play with nearly four giveaways per game. Needs more bulk at the next level.
Projection: Payton has the tools to be an effective PG in the NBA with improved shooting range and fewer turnovers with both being areas that can be corrected. Not a bad pick up in the middle of the opening round.
