NBA Draft: June 26, 2014
USA TODAY Sports
2013-14 Season: 26.7 PPG-7.0 RPG-1.6 APG
Strengths: Anything to do with shooting the basketball and making shots. Quick release with range and good foot work. Fundamentally sound at the offensive end and doesn't take bad shots. Underestimated athleticism and good leaping ability. Has a variety of moves and shots including a jump hook, fadeaway, floaters etc. and makes his free throws. Decent on the backboards and has a high basketball IQ as a coach's son.
Weakness: Not extremely fast or quick which raises the biggest concern; is he athletic enough at the next level? Doesn't have a great deal of length and has some trouble getting his shot away near the basket against legitimate shot blockers. Long, athletic opponents gave him problems defensively and offensively and on the glass. Not a great defender or passer.
Projection: McDermott will hit shots when open but will he make them with NBA calibur talent guarding him every night? Nobody has proven otherwise and I don't see him having an issue playing this game at any level so top ten seems likely...
