NBA Player Updates 6/4: Pacers, Knicks, NBA Finals TV Schedule and More
June 4, 2014
We’re just one day away from the big day in the NBA. The Finals begin tomorrow night, and in the meantime the anticipation is pretty thick. While we’re waiting on tip-off, let’s take our daily look around the league and see what’s happening out there right now with your favorite players.
The Great Stephenson Debate: This off-season, we’re bound to hear plenty of hearsay and conjecture about what the Pacers should (or shouldn’t) do with Lance Stephenson. He’s set to be a free agent this summer, and his antics in the Eastern Conference Finals have some folks wondering if he’s worth all the trouble.
Stephenson played the antagonist against the Heat, notably annoying LeBron James into bewilderment by blowing in his ear. The antics slowed up when Pacers president Larry Bird sat him down and told him to knock it off.
The early indications here seem to be that Indy is leaning toward bringing Stephenson back--but only at a reasonable price. Whether or not that will be feasible depends on the market. He’s sure to attract plenty of attention after his six triple-doubles this year (a league-high), but it’s unclear how much his playoff antics will turn off some teams. Stephenson will likely have an asking price in the $8-10 million range, and we’ll just have to wait and see if any team is willing to take the relative risk in forking over the dough.

Fisher to Knicks?: Now that Phil Jackson disciple Steve Kerr is at home with the Warriors, Knicks fans’ thoughts have turned to their next possible head coaching candidate. Jackson tipped his hand on Fisher when he was fined for discussing the possibility of having him serve as New York’s coach, and now it seems that scenario is playing itself out.
The two are reportedly scheduled to have a sit-down meeting concerning the Knicks’ open coaching position, and after that chat takes place we’ll have a better understanding of what will happen in the near future. It’s technically not an official interview, but some outlets are already discussing the potential here. Jackson and Fisher share a long history, and some people close to the situation believe Fisher would be very intrigued by coaching in the Big Apple, which makes it seem like a reunion between the two men could be in the cards.
That said, Fisher still hasn’t formally decided on his retirement as a player, and the disappointment of Oklahoma City’s loss in the Western Conference Finals could still be weighing heavily on his mind.
