NBA Player Updates 6/7: Timberwolves News, NBA Finals TV Schedule and More
June 7, 2014
We’ve still got another day to wait until Game 2 of the NBA Finals, but in the meantime there’s quite a bit of news out there to talk about. With that in mind, let’s take our daily look around the league and check out some of the on-court (and off-court) happenings. Here’s the latest.
No More Cramps: The source of the main storyline from Game 1 of the Finals was the AT&T Center’s air conditioning system--or lack thereof. Thanks to an outage, the AC wasn’t working at game time, and as a result the temperature in the stadium rose into the mid-80s. In the day or so since, much has been made of LeBron James’ cramp issues that caused him to come out of the game for good with four minutes left.
We won’t have a repeat performance of that issue in Game 2 tomorrow, though. The Spurs announced yesterday that their air conditioning system inside the stadium had been fixed and has been tested as fully operational.
That said, if Miami gets a good-sized lead, we wouldn’t be surprised to see the system suffer another “breakdown.”

Love’s Next Move: Now that Flip Saunders has officially been named the head coach of the Minnesota Timberwolves (again), the question now turns to the ramifications this move will have on the team’s roster.
There’s a lot riding on the 2014-15 campaign for the T-Wolves. Their All-Star forward Kevin Love will be able to opt out of his contract next summer (and is fully expected to do so), which puts pressure on the Timberwolves to convince him to stay. Adding Saunders as head coach is seen as a move that’s supposed to promote stability and confidence as far as where the franchise is heading, but there’s speculation out there that the efforts to try and convince Love to stay will be in vain.
There’s been plenty of speculation so far about Love’s potential new landing spot next year, with the Lakers, Celtics, Bulls, Warriors, Knicks and Rockets all being named as suitors. No one ever talks about Love returning to Minnesota, however, and it’s going to take a Herculean effort to convince him to do so.
That said, there are other ways this situation could play itself out. The possibility of a trade exists, however unlikely that may be. It all just depends on how firm Minnesota’s belief that they’ll be able to re-sign Love is.
