NBA Player Updates 6/20: Embiid Injury, Possible Love Deal, Off-Season Schedule and More
June 20, 2014
Even though the NBA stadiums have gone dark for the time being, it’s still been a pretty busy week for league news. We’ll be getting even more headlines from day to day as the draft and free agency draw closer, so in the meantime let’s check out some of the stories that are forming out there right now.
Embiid Injury: Yesterday, the basketball world was abuzz with the news that potential No. 1 pick Joel Embiid had suffered an injury to his right foot. This injury occurred at some point over the past few days and the big man has been getting evaluated by a slew of doctors and experts.
The early reports here say it’s a stress fracture, which would obviously affect his position in the draft. He’s scheduled for surgery on his foot today, which will repair the fracture. He’s also had issues with his back in the past, which is another red flag regarding his health.
We’ll likely know more today once we get some additional information, but as of right now it’s not looking too positive. Embiid may see a big slide down the draft board of most teams.

Kevin Love Latest: We’ll be hearing a lot about a potential Kevil Love trade a lot this summer as we lead up to his free-agent off-season next year. As of right now, there’s still not much to go on when it comes to predicting the situation’s climax. There have been reports of packages offered by the Celtics, Nuggets and Warriors, though it’s unclear if a potential deal will materialize or not.
One other report claimed the Celtics’ offer wasn’t quite enticing enough for the Timberwolves, and Boston may end up being content to sit on its hands and rebuild organically this summer. Still, we could see a deal materializing in the coming days as Minnesota mulls their options.
The Nuggets reportedly have the inside track here, as there have been reports of them offering up Klay Thompson, David Lee and a future first round pick to Minnesota in exchange for Love.
This situation seems to be developing rapidly, so we’ll likely see a conclusion soon.
McRoberts to Skip Town: There’s a report out there this week that says Hornets forward Josh McRoberts will be opting out of his deal this summer and becoming an unrestricted free agent.
He’ll be testing the market on the strength of what turned out to be a pretty good year. McRoberts was second in the NBA among forwards with 4.3 assists per game.
NBA 2014 Off-Season Schedule: It’ll be a long off-season, but we’ll have plenty of happenings (and rumors) around the league to keep us busy. The major events this summer will be the NBA Draft and the free agency period, so let’s check out the dates on those and a few others.
