NBA Player Updates 7/19: New Transactions, Free Agent Rumors, Off-Season Schedule and More
July 19, 2014
It’s been a pretty intense week in the NBA, especially for the relatively calm off-season. Even though most of the big free agent dominoes have fallen, we’re still waiting on quite a bit of activity from around the league. Let’s check in on some of that by taking our daily look at the NBA activity this weekend.
Ferdette Deal: The Pelicans were active in free agency yesterday, inking former King Jimmer Ferdette to a one-year deal. It’s an encouraging depth pickup for New Orleans, as Ferdette boasted a nice 49 percent shooting total from three-point range last season. We may see him find a steady rotation spot as a situational player for the Pelicans.

Love Rumors Latest: Will it be Cleveland? Minnesota? Golden State? No one really knows at this point where uber-forward Kevil Love will be playing this season, but that hasn’t stopped the rumor mill from working overtime. Let’s check out some of the latest tidbits regarding that situation.
Love has been contacted by new Cavalier LeBron James, who reached out to inform him that he’d love for the two of them to hook up in Cleveland. It’s unclear whether or not a potential pairing like that would happen, though, since any trade would likely involve Cleveland parting ways with their No. 1 pick Andrew Wiggins.
Then there’s Golden State. Love is apparently receptive to the idea of heading to the Bay Area, as he would reportedly agree to opt into his deal if he were sent to the Warriors. At first, Golden State balked at sending Klay Thompson to Minnesota as part of a potential Love trade, but since their stance has reportedly softened a bit, and they’re now willing to do anything to get their guy, even if it means sacrificing Thompson. Other names being mentioned along with that potential trade are David Lee and Harrison Barnes, who would both likely be packaged along with Thompson in a deal.
Still, this is a very fluid situation, and we’re likely to hear a lot more rumor and conjecture before all of this is finished up.
Seraphin Deal: Free agent forward Kevin Seraphin and the Wizards have agreed on a qualifying offer of $3.8 million.
The 24-year-old Seraphin is coming off 4.7 PPG and 2.4 RPG averages in 10.9 minutes with the Wizards in 2013-14.
NBA 2014 Off-Season Schedule: It’ll be a long off-season, but we’ll have plenty of happenings (and rumors) around the league to keep us busy. The major events this summer will be the NBA Draft and the free agency period, so let’s check out the dates on those and a few others.
