NBA Player Updates 7/20: Rumors, Transactions, Off-Season Schedule and More
July 20, 2014
Even though it’s the off-season, we’re still getting quite a bit of NBA news coming in at a fairly steady pace. With that in mind, let’s take a closer look at some of the headlines out there and see which players everyone is talking about.
Bynum’s Future: Yesterday, a report came out concerning the potential future of injury-plagued big man Andrew Bynum. The latest news there is that he’s considering taking part in a German therapy program to encourage healing and cartilage growth in his knees.
If Bynum does indeed opt for that procedure, he’ll have to sit out the entire 2014-15 season, as the recovery time is pretty lengthy.
If the treatment is indeed a success, there’s a pretty decent chance that Bynum may rejoin his old coach Phil Jackson in New York. He’d also be looking for more of a long-term situation after playing for Philadelphia, Cleveland and Indiana over the past two seasons alone.

Davis Deal: The Clippers made some minor headlines yesterday, when it was announced that they’d re-signed big man Glen “Big Baby” Davis. The exact terms of the deal were not immediately clear.
Davis is coming off a 2013-14 season in which he averaged 4.2 PPG and 3.0 RPG, but played in just 23 contests. He joined up with the Clippers near the end of February.
The 28-year-old Davis was a free agent, and he rejoins Los Angeles after stints with both the Magic and Celtics. He also played under L.A. coach Doc Rivers in Boston during their 2008 championship run.
Cleveland-Minnesota Deal Latest: Yesterday gave us little else but a standstill on news of the (possibly) impending trade between the Timberwolves and the Cavaliers. Let’s check out the current situation and see if we can speculate on any developments.
Rumors have been flying over the past week or so, saying that new No. 1 pick Andrew Wiggins could be headed to Minnesota as part of a blockbuster deal for uber-forward Kevin Love. The T-Wolves have long insisted that Wiggins be part of any potential trade, an idea Cleveland balked at until very recently.
Although nothing is set in stone, it does feel as if a deal is imminent. The only other potential wrench in the gears here is the Warriors, who could swoop in and steal Love away at the last minute with a potent package featuring Klay Thompson. We’ll keep you posted on any developments.
NBA 2014 Off-Season Schedule: It’ll be a long off-season, but we’ll have plenty of happenings (and rumors) around the league to keep us busy. The major events this summer will be the NBA Draft and the free agency period, so let’s check out the dates on those and a few others.
June 26: NBA Draft
July 1: Teams can officially begin negotiating with free agents
July 10: Players can begin signing contracts
October 4: Pre-season begins
October 28: First game of the 2014-15 season
April 18, 2015: Playoffs begin
