NBA Player Updates 8/2: George Injury, Off-Season Schedule and More
August 2, 2014
As far as NBA news goes, it’s been a pretty slow week--even for the usually-slow summer months. Still, there’s been a steady trickle of activity out there each day, so with that said let’s take our daily look around the league and see what’s happening as we head into the weekend.
Rose/Bulls Situation: Late this week, we got some interesting insight into the situation between Derek Rose’s camp and the Chicago Bulls.
Rose recently made some comments that were published in the Chicago Sun-Times, saying that he knew about some strain between his inner circle and the organization. Speculation has said that the rift developed from Rose’s camp bad-mouthing the Bulls. There has also reportedly been some unhappiness stemming from Rose’s refusal to actively recruit Carmelo Anthony to join him in Chicago.
For the record, team chairman Jerry Reinsdorf has denied that there’s any sort of tension between the Bulls and Rose, and pointed to a unified front by all involved as the team looks forward to the 2014-15 campaign.
This is likely much ado about nothing, as it shouldn’t have much of a bearing on the team overall. Once the Bulls get back out on the court with their revamped lineup (along with a healthy Rose), all this off-season talk will be mostly forgotten again.

George Injury: The whole basketball world is buzzing this morning about the unfortunate injury to the Pacers’ Paul George. Let’s check out the details and see what we can make of the situation.
George was injured during an intra-squad scrimmage of the USA Basketball national team last night. He hurt himself after jumping up to contest a layup, then smashing his leg against the backboard stanchion.
After about 10 minutes of being worked on by trainers, George left the court on a stretcher. The scrimmage was called off afterward due to the emotion surrounding the unfortunate situation.
We won’t know any details on George’s condition until we receive an update on his status today, but by most accounts it’s looking like he sustained a pretty bad fracture of his leg. His timeline for recovery will likely be quite long, so you can pretty much pencil him out for the start of the 2014-15 NBA season and beyond.
We’ll keep you updated when more information is released.
NBA 2014 Off-Season Schedule: It’ll be a long off-season, but we’ll have plenty of happenings (and rumors) around the league to keep us busy. The major events this summer will be the NBA Draft and the free agency period, so let’s check out the dates on those and a few others.
June 26: NBA Draft
July 1: Teams can officially begin negotiating with free agents
July 10: Players can begin signing contracts
October 4: Pre-season begins
October 28: First game of the 2014-15 season
