The NBA is on hold right now, given that we’re knee-deep in the off-season, but we’ve still got USA Basketball to hold us over until the 2014-15 campaign begins. With that in mind, let’s take our daily look at some of the headlines from around the league and see what everyone’s up to out there right now. Here’s the latest.

Knicks’ Playoff Chances: If you don’t believe the Knicks will be making the playoffs this year (like most people do), don’t tell that to newly-svelte forward Carmelo Anthony.
According to some comments he made that were published yesterday, Anthony insists that the team will be much better than their ugly-looking campaign last season, when they finished 37-45 and firmly out of playoff contention.
Anthony has made headlines more for his physique than anything else recently. He’s slimmed down considerably and looks prepared to endure the rigors of the 2014-15 NBA campaign.
That said, he stopped short of placing specific goals for this year’s squad, but did seem more than eager to get sterted.
So, who will the Knicks be battling with to get into the playoffs this season? Well, Cleveland seems to be a lock, what with the uber-combo of LeBron and Love. The Bulls are perennial contenders, and who knows what they’ll do with a healthy Derrick Rose. Indiana will likely make it in on defense alone, even without Paul George in the mix.
The Raptors, Hornets and Wizards will be in the mix as well, which leaves just a couple of spots left to wedge into. The Knicks will have to battle it out with Brooklyn and Atlanta most likely, but then again with the lengthy season still ahead it’s tough to make any predictions just yet.

Byron Scott Supporting Staff: New Lakers coach Byron Scott is reportedly working on getting his support staff in place, and we’ve got some reports on who will be in there.
According to sources close to the team, Mark Madsen will stay around as an assistant, which will be nice since he’s familiar with the team that’s been built over the past few years.
Jim Eyen, who is a veteran assistant coach, is also expected to join up, but there are also a couple of vacancies left for Scott to fill beyond that. Some names being tossed around include Johnny Davis and Larry Lewis, as both are still under contract with the team.
