Now that the World Cup has officially begun, we NBA fans who are looking for some basketball action can get our collective fix by watching Team USA in the tournament. Meanwhile, there’s plenty to keep tabs on here at home, so with that said let’s take our daily look around the league and see what’s happening out there.

Team USA Update: The Americans didn’t have too much trouble in their World Cup opener against Finland yesterday, emerging with a strong defensive effort among some solid-looking team chemistry in a 114-55 rout.
The US defense was working overtime in this one, as Finland was unable to score at all in the second quarter--save for a pair of free throws. The scoring line was 29-2 in that one, giving America a 60-18 lead at the half.
Klay Thompson led the way for the US team, posting 18 points. Emerging start Anthony Davis was as consistent as ever and close behind with 17 points of his own. Their performances--and the team’s chemistry overall--put to rest some of the doubts that remained about the US’s light exhibition schedule and its impact on their play in this tournament. It hasn’t taken much to get them going so far.
Next up for America is a matchup against Turkey today. This will be a repeat of the 2010 world basketball championship (which is now the World Cup) gold-medal game.
