NBA Player Updates 9/3: News From Around the League, Off-Season Schedule and More
September 3, 2014
The NBA is at a relative standstill right now, with it being the off-season and all. That said, there’s plenty of basketball action going on in the World Cup, and we’ve got plenty more of that to look forward to. That said, let’s take our daily look around the league and check out some of the happenings out there.
Team USA Update: After getting a scare in Sunday’s eventual victory over Turkey in the World Cup, Team USA was out to reestablish their dominance yesterday against New Zealand--and that’s exactly what they did.
The Americans cruised to a 98-71 victory in that one, staying in complete control for most of the game. The combination of Anthony Davis and Kenneth Faried continued to be the focal point of the US attack, with the talented duo combining for 36 points and 20 rebounds between them.
Also getting in on the act were Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson, utilizing their Splash Brothers talents on 4-of-6 shooting from three-point range.
If there’s an area the USA needs to work on, it’s perimeter shooting. They were just 6-for-16 from mid-range, but complemented that with some solid work up close.
Up next for Team USA is a game against the Dominican Republic this afternoon.

Vonleh Status: Yesterday, we got an update on the status of the Hornets’ first-round pick Noah Vonleh, so let’s head over to Charlotte and see how he’s doing.
The young forward will reportedly be out of commission for a 6-8 week period following his surgery to repair a sports hernia. He had the procedure done on Tuesday and sustained the condition recently while working out.
Vonleh was picked at No. 9 overall in the most recent draft, and averaged 11.3 PPG with 9.0 RPG and 1.4 BPG at Indiana last season.
