NBA Player Updates 9/8: News From Around the League, Off-Season Schedule and More
September 8, 2014
Team USA gets another day off today before they resume action in the next round of the World Cup in Spain. In the meantime, we’ve got a few things to go over this morning in our daily roundup, so let’s take a closer look at some of the notable happenings around the NBA and abroad.
Turkoglu Deal: According to reports that emerged over the weekend, the Clippers are inching ever closer to signing veteran forward Hedu Turkoglu. He’d be getting a one-year, $1.4 million deal.
Turkoglu posted a 3.0 PPG average and 2.3 RPG average in his 38 games last year.

Rondo Latest: It seems that the persistent rumors surrounding Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo are exaggerated. Celtic president Rich Gotham was reported this weekend as saying that Rondo hasn’t asked to be traded, which puts a damper on the speculation of where he could end up.
Rondo is heading into the final year of his contract and will be 100 percent healthy when the campaign begins. He played just 30 games last year after recovering from his torn ACL.
Around the League: Let’s cruise around the NBA and check out some of the recent happenings, from health and injury news to transactions and team outlooks.
The Hornets’ Noah Vonleh is recovering from surgery for a sports hernia, a procedure he underwent early this month. He was the No. 9 overall pickup in this year’s draft.
Vonleh will need around 6-8 weeks to recover from his surgery, and that’s likely going to interfere with the start of the Hornets’ season. Don’t expect to see a whole lot of him during the early weeks of the team’s campaign as he heals up.
Late last week, the Raptors inked center Greg Stiemsma to a one-year deal. The new contract is worth $1 million. Stiemsma is coming off a 4.1 RPG average in 18.3 minutes per game during the 2013-14 season with the Pelicans. He’s not really much of a scorer, though (2.9 PPG).
In another transaction from late last week, the Mavericks decided to bring back center Bernard James on a one-year deal. In his 76 career games, he’s got a 2.1 PPG average, 2.3 RPG average and 7.9 minutes average.
