NBA Player Updates 9/9: News From Around the League, Off-Season Schedule and More
September 9, 2014
After a day off yesterday, the US World Cup team will be back out on the court in the next few hours. While we’re waiting on tip-off from that one, let’s check out some of the notable happenings out there and see which players form around the NBA are making headlines right now. Here’s the latest.
World Cup Outlook: Well, today’s the day. The US World Cup team will be getting back to work today against Slovenia, and with every round, the games are getting more and more interesting.
Here’s what to look for in today’s matchup (which airs at 3:00 PM ET). The Slovenians lack size--just like the USA does--so they match up pretty well overall. They’ve got some very nice outside and perimeter shooting to their credit, but will struggle to defend inside against the likes of Anthony Davis and Kenneth Faried.
These two teams have played recently in an exhibition format, with Team USA trouncing Slovenia 101-71. Davis (18 points) and Faried (14 points) predictably had good games. We can expect the Americans to look their way early and often in today’s matchup.
One player to look out for on the Slovenian team is Goran Dragic, who is a point guard for the Phoenix Suns. His minutes restriction will be lifted for this one, and he could give the US some trouble.

Monroe Latest: Yesterday, the official word broke that Pistons forward Greg Monroe had inked a one-year qualifying offer with the team for this upcoming season. The terms were not made public (team policy).
Monroe is coming off a nice campaign last season, posting 15.2 PPG and 9.3 RPG in his 82 appearances. This one-year deal will make the free agency period next summer a little more interesting, so keep that in mind as we cruise through the season.
