NBA Player Updates 9/10: News From Around the League, Off-Season Schedule and More
September 10, 2014
After an off-day Monday, the USA World Cup basketball team was back out on the court yesterday, which gives us plenty to talk about this morning. Likewise, there’s plenty of action happening back here in the states as well when it comes to the NBA, so with that in mind let’s take our daily look around the league and see who’s making news right now.
Team USA Latest: The American team used a second-half run to pull away from Slovenia and take another win in the World Cup quarterfinals yesterday. They used a 37-22 third quarter to take a sizable lead on an eventual 119-76 victory, propelling them into the semifinal round.
Klay Thompson (20 points) and James Harden (14 points; 12 in the third quarter) helped drive the victory, as did the Americans’ speed. They scored 42 points on fast-breaks. 40 more came off turnovers.
If Team USA wins the semifinal, they’ll advance to the gold-medal game on September 14; If not, it’s off to the bronze-medal game on September 13.
Next up is Lithuania tomorrow in the semifinals. They beat Turkey 73-61 in the quarterfinal round.

Marion Signing: Yesterday, word broke that the Cavaliers had officially inked free-agent forward Shawn Marion to a deal. The terms weren’t released due to league policy.
The 15-year veteran Marion adds another dimension to the supporting cast behind LeBron James and Kevin Love in Cleveland. He carries a career average of 15.8 PPG and 9.0 RPG and can deliver quality minutes for the Cavs.
Monroe Update: Newly signed combo forward Greg Monroe will be missing the first two games of the 2014-15 season. He’s been suspended without pay for pleading guilty to driving while impaired.
