NBA Player Updates 9/19: News From Around the League, Off-Season Schedule and More
September 19, 2014
It’s been a pretty steady week for NBA news so far, and that’s not going to be changing anytime soon. Preseason--and beyond it the 2014-15 campaign--isn’t too far off, so let’s keep things moving by taking our daily look around the league at some of the notable happenings out there.
Antetokounmpo Outlook: What does year two have in store for dynamic Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo? Well, that’s up for some speculation.
At just 20 years old, “Alphabet” is coming off a historically significant first season in the NBA. Just 15 other players in league history have posted minutes totals has high as his as teenagers (1,897), which sets a distinct precedent for him already. That said, he’s still got some ground to make up if he wants to make himself a part of the NBA elite.
Antetokounmpo averaged just 6.8 PPG and 4.4 RPG during his rookie year; Pretty good for a first-year player but far from where he should be at as an NBA star. The buzz continues to build around him, though, so he’ll have no shortage of fans and well-wishers in his second season.

Harris Outlook: Another enigma in the upcoming season is Orlando forward Tobias Harris, who is coming off a resurgent season and will look to build off of that progress this year.
In the 2013-14 campaign, he averaged 15.2 PPG and 7.1 RPG after the new year, marking a second half that saw him finally settling into his game.
Working against Harris this season is increased competition on the roster this year (Channing Frye, Aaron Gordon, etc.) and he’ll also need to stay healthy to retain his spot in the rotation. (He missed 20 games last year.)
If he can do all of that, however, Harris does have a ton of potential on his side.
Asik Outlook: The 2014-15 future looks bright for Pelicans center Omer Asik. He was relegated to a reserve role last season, which really took the steam out of what had been a promising run for him. He’ll team up with Anthony Davis, who was one of the heroes of the USA’s dominating World Cup win this summer. With the two of them side by side, there’s a lot the Pelicans can accomplish this season.
Assuming he can stay healthy, Asik has the capacity to average a double-double again this year as he did two seasons ago.
