NBA Player Updates 9/25: News From Around the League, Off-Season Schedule and More
September 25, 2014
We’ve got just over a week to wait before the preseason begins in the NBA, and the anticipation continues to build with each passing day. With that in mind, let’s take our daily look around the league and see which players are making news this morning. Here’s the latest.
Michael Beasley has had quite a history of ups and downs in his six-year NBA career. After being drafted at No. 2 overall, he’s led a journeyman life, bouncing from team to team due to off-court issues and discipline problems.
There seemed to be a bit of a light bulb flashing last season with Miami, however, as he managed 7.9 PPG in a reserve role. That said, the team passed on him this year due to his sketchy defense.
Now, Beasley is getting yet another chance. He’s been offered a non-guaranteed contract with the Memphis Grizzlies, who are the only team that expressed that level of interest in him this off-season. He’ll compete for a roster spot during training camp, and if all goes well he could land a backup role.
Whether or not Beasley can keep it together long enough to warrant another chance remains to be seen, but it’ll be an interesting camp topic in Memphis.

This season, Chris Bosh will be getting back to his roots. When he rose to prominence in Toronto, he molded his game into that of a low-post player who could dominate one-on-one matchups close to the basket. Now, with LeBron removing his talents from South Beach, Bosh will likely be occupying that role once again.
He’s got a few more miles on him since his Raptors days, so it remains to be seen how effective Bosh will be in a featured low-post role. If things work out, we may see him in something of a hybrid role between that and a stretch shooting capacity.
Regardless, the Heat still have enough talent to compete in the East (depending on how healthy Dwyane Wade can remain), and are one of the few teams who seem like legitimate threats to Cleveland.
