NBA Player Updates 9/26: News From Around the League, Off-Season Schedule and More
September 26, 2014
We’ve had a pretty steady stream of news on the NBA front this week, and that trend should be continuing into the weekend. There’s plenty to keep tabs on as we head into the preseason period, so with that said let’s take our daily look around the league and see who’s in the news.
SF Alonzo Gee was waived by the Sacramento Kings yesterday. He appeared in 65 games last year with the Cavaliers. During that time, Gee averaged 4.0 PPG and 2.3 RPG.

According to sources close to the team, the Charlotte Hornets will be signing veteran PF Jason Maxiell today. He was let go by the Magic a couple of months back.
Maxiell averaged around 14 minutes per game (34 appearances) last year, posting 3.2 PPG and 2.5 RPG averages.
We’ll have to wait a little longer before we get our first glimpse of Sixers guard Michael Carter-Williams this season. He’s reportedly not healthy enough just yet following shoulder surgery this off-season.
Carter-Williams had a procedure back in May. When he’s 100 percent and back on the court, he’ll look to improve his 16.7 PPG and 6.3 APG averages.
In a similar situation, Atlanta PF Al Horford isn’t yet ready for full contact in training camp. He’s still getting through the final stages of his recovery from a torn pectoral muscle last season.
Though the team is holding him back at this stage, the feeling seems to be that Horford will be ready to go by the time the regular season gets here. He posted 18.6 PPG throughout his 29 games, and the Hawks are expecting him to be a dominant force in 2014-15.
The Nets inked free agent Willie Reed yesterday, but the terms of the deal weren’t made public. He’s coming off a nice showing in the D-League, posting 14.7 PPG and 9.9 RPG in 49 appearances. The 24-year-old hasn’t played at the NBA level yet.
