NBA Player Updates 10/2: News From Around the League, Off-Season Schedule and More
October 2, 2014
October has already gotten off to a great start when it comes to NBA news. We’re seeing teams across the league getting their practice sessions together, which will lead to a busy preseason starting this weekend. In the meantime, let’s take our daily look around the league and see who’s making news out there.
New Orleans added D.J. Stephens to their training camp roster this week. He’s a guard/forward who posted a 2.3 PPG and 1.7 RPG average in his three games for Milwaukee last season.

The Heat’s Josh McRoberts had to sit out of yesterday’s scrimmage, but the good news is that his toe injury is expected to be well enough for him to play by the beginning of the season.
McRoberts had surgery on his toe over the summer, remedying an issue he’s reportedly been dealing with over the past couple of seasons.
There’s no real cause for concern here. McRoberts should be good to go and up to speed on opening night, as the team is simply easing him along right now.
Here’s a fun fact for Blazers fans: This year, PF LaMarcus Aldridge will most likely be attempting a good deal more 3-point shots than he did last season.
Aldridge chucked up 15 treys in 2013-14, and reportedly has been working on his outside shot this summer. There’s no word on how often he’ll get to chuck one up, but don’t be surprised to see him going for it if he’s open.
Raptors SG DeMar DeRozan expects to take a big step forward this year. He says he’s been working hard in the off-season brushing up on his ball-handling skills and tightening the screws on a few aspects of his game that he wasn’t quite comfortable with.
DeRozan also says his conditioning has improved a great deal. He feels that he can put in 40 minutes of action in a game if needed. We’ll see if any of that translates to the court.
