The Chicago Bulls host the Charlotte Hornets for a televised game on NBA TV on Sunday night at 8PM ET from the United Center in Chicago, Illinois.
The Charlotte Hornets are 3-2 to kick of the preseason with two wins against the Wizards and a win against the Magic, and losses to the Sixers and Pistons. The Hornets haven’t exactly faced strong competition but the Wizards are arguably the best opponent they’ve faced and they came away with two victories. The Hornets are led by veteran center Al Jefferson who hasn’t shown any signs of regressing from his peak form last year with healthy numbers in the preseason. The Hornets picked up the cagey Lance Stephenson to join Kemba Walker in what should be considered a strong backcourt. Marvin Williams joins the team at PF but I’m still a doubter on how effective fans should really expect him to be. Michael Kidd-Gilchrist is still a development project at SF but figures to have upside as the team around him continues to develop simultaneously. On the bench the Hornets have scoring punch with Gerald Henderson and Gary Neal and a strong defensive presence in Bismack Biyombo.

The Chicago Bulls are also 3-2 to start their exhibition slate with close opening losses to the Wizards and Piston and consecutive wins against the Bucks, Nuggets and Hawks. PG Derrick Rose has played in all five preseason games and has been as productive as you could really ask for thus far. Joakim Noah is one of the best emotional and vocal leaders in all of sports at the center position and the Bulls got Pau Gasol in the offseason to complement his efforts down low. Jimmy Butler is a star on the rise at shooting guard but the Bulls have to be considered weak at the small forward position as Mike Dunleavy is an above average bench player at best. Taj Gibson on the other hand is a bench player that could easily and maybe should be a starter at power forward. To round out the bench the Bulls have veterans Kirk Hinrich and Nazr Mohammed and rookie Doug McDermott looking to prove that his college resume wasn’t a fluke.
The Bulls have a strong home court advantage but 5.5 is on the high end for spreads we will see in the preseason, so I will take my chances with the Hornets who should have enough depth to hang. Make sure to pay attention to my unit ratings though as I rate games 1-5 and this is just a lean here with a rating of 1.
