NBA Player Updates 10/22: News From Around the League
The countdown to the 2014-15 NBA season stands at just six days, so there’s plenty of anticipation building among fans. While we’re waiting on those first (official) tip-offs, let’s take our daily look around the league and see who’s making news out there. Here’s the latest.
The Mavericks made a couple of roster moves yesterday. The team announced that they’d waived both Eric Griffin (forward) and Yuki Togashi (guard). Those moves pared the team’s roster down to 18.

The Wizards inked John Lucas to a deal yesterday. He’s a six-year veteran of the league and carries career averages of 1.4 APG and 4.8 PPG.
The Celtics’ James Young was able to return to practice on Monday, and so far he’s feeling no soreness. He’d been out of action for two weeks due to a hamstring strain.
Young was picked at No. 17 overall in this year’s draft.
It doesn’t look like the Magic’s Victor Oladipo will be able to recover from his sprained MCL in time to get on the court for the team’s season opener against New Orleans on October 28.
Oladipo has been gradually increasing his workload at practice, but as yet looks a little ways off from being back in the lineup.
One of many storylines surrounding the New York Knicks this season is the health and contributions of vet forward Amar’e Stoudemire. For what it’s worth, he says he’s heading into the year healthy and says his love of the game is still intact.
Stoudemire got his first preseason start on Monday, posting 14 points and six boards. We’ll see if he can remain healthy and become a viable contributor this season.
The Thunder’s Kevin Durant says he’s been “antsy” since his foot surgery last week, but isn’t going to rush the healing process. He was given a 6-8 week window for recovery, and he’s going to adhere to it.
Durant, who is the league’s reigning MVP, posted 32.0 PPG, 5.5 APG and 7.4 RPG in a career year during 2013-14.
