The Washington Wizards and Miami Heat meet Wednesday at the AmericanAirlines Arena for the season opener.
The Washington Wizards are one of the more talented teams in the NBA but enter this matchup all banged up. Bradley Beal is out until further notice with a wrist injury, Nene Hilario will miss the game due to a suspension and Kris Humphries is questionable with a hand injury. With three key players likely out for the Wizards, Washington will turn to Marcin Gortat, John Wall and the newly acquired Paul Pierce to compete at a high level. The Wizards have a chance to make a serious run in the East this season with underrated depth and youth that will drive some of the older teams crazy with their speed and athleticism. Right now, however, the Washington Wizards are one of the most banged up teams in the league entering the season.

The Miami Heat will figure out soon what life is like without LeBron James, as it’s now the Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade show. The Heat did a nice job of picking up the pieces once LeBron left, as the additions of Luol Deng, Josh McRoberts and Danny Granger shouldn’t be underrated. However, Josh McRoberts is doubtful for this game after missing all of the preseason with a toe injury. The Heat have playmakers and veteran leadership that keep them in playoff contention, but their lack of rebounding will continue to be their downfall. Bosh has shown time and time again that he’s not a true center and a 36-year-old Chris Anderson isn’t exactly the answer, either. In order to be a legitimate threat in the East this season, the Miami Heat have to figure out how to rebound the ball at a higher clip.
The Wizards are 27-10 ATS in their last 37 road games and 11-4 ATS in their last 15 games overall. The Heat are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 vs. the Eastern Conference and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall. The home team is 7-2 ATS in the last 9 meetings.
The reason the Heat are decent sized favorites is because the Washington Wizards are so banged up. Without many of their key guys in this game and the fact the Heat are at home, Miami has to be the play in this spot. Look for the Heat to open the season with a victory and a confidence booster moving forward without the best player in basketball.
