The Dallas Mavericks and New Orleans Pelicans play Saturday night at the Smoothie King Center.
The Dallas Mavericks bounced back from their loss to the San Antonio Spurs with a win Thursday over the Utah Jazz. The Mavericks are getting the job done on the offensive end by shooting 52.1 percent from the field and 38.1 percent from downtown. Monta Ellis is averaging 20 points and six assists, while Dirk Nowitzki is averaging 19.5 points and 4.5 rebounds. The Mavs have six different players averaging double-digit points, including Chandler Parsons who bounced back with 21 points on 50 percent shooting in his last game. Defensively, the Dallas Mavericks are allowing 101.5 points on 47.7 percent shooting from the field. The Dallas Mavericks are clearly a playoff team in the West and remain a dark horse championship team if everybody can stay healthy.

The New Orleans Pelicans haven't played since their season opening win Tuesday over the Orlando Magic. In the victory, the Pelicans shot 40.6 percent from the field, allowed 38.1 percent shooting and grabbed a ridiculous 62 rebounds. A combination of Anthony Davis and Omer Asik in the paint could be deadly, as they produced 40 points, 14 blocks and 34 rebounds in a combined 70 minutes. If those two big men can continue to feed off one another, the Pelicans have a shot to be a possible playoff team with a few other guys stepping up. Ryan Anderson scored 22 points off the bench and Austin Rivers had three assists and seven points in 20 minutes. Expect to see a more aggressive Jrue Holiday and Eric Gordon in this matchup, as they were a poor 5-19 from the field combined. This is a measuring stick game for the young Pelicans.
The Mavericks are 51-20 ATS in their last 71 road games and 9-1 ATS in their last 10 games overall. The Pelicans are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 home games and 16-7 ATS in their last 23 games playing on 3 or more days rest. The Mavericks are 4-0 ATS in the last 4 meetings in New Orleans.
While it may only be one game, I'm starting to drink the New Orleans Pelicans Kool Aid. New Orleans is a very talented team led by an MVP candidate and hasa point to proove in this matchup. While the low line is tempting with the Mavericks, I'm going to buy the Pelicans stock early and back NO at home. The Pelicans should own the glass this season.
