The Portland Trail Blazers and the Cleveland Cavaliers face off on Tuesday at the Moda Center at the Rose Quarter in NBA action.
The Portland Trail Blazers are off to a 1-2 start to their 2014 season and have lost their last two games. This is the Trail Blazers third road game and that is where their lone win took place. Portland is averaging 96.7 points per game and they are allowing a sixth best in the NBA 95.7 points while pounding the boards to the tune of a fourth best in the NBA 45.3 rebounds per game. LaMarcus Aldridge leads the Blazers with 25 points per game and 6.7 rebounds shooting 47.4 percent from the field and 79 percent from the free throw line. Wesley Mathews is averaging 18.7 points and Damian Lillard is averaging 13.7 points and 5.0 rebounds. In their last game on Sunday against Golden State the Trail Blazers simply took a lot of bad shots and missed wide-open shots in a game they trailed all the way.
USA TODAY Sports
The Cleveland Cavaliers are off to a 1-1 start after a disappointing loss in their opener at home and a an overtime win on the road in Chicago on Friday. The Cavaliers are averaging 102 points per game and are allowing a 22nd in the NBA 101.5 points per game to go with their 42.5 rebounds per game. LeBron James is the story in Cleveland and the leader of the Cavs and he is averaging 26.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists but as always he is more concerned with trying to win every game as a team. Kyrie Irving is averaging 22.5 points and 5.0 assists and Kevin Love is averaging 17.5 points and 15 rebounds per game. Even in their win the Cavaliers look like a team that is still putting it together as they have plenty of talent but It hasn’t looked convincing on the scoreboard.
Portland is 8-3 against the spread against the Eastern Conference, 3-9 against the spread in their last 12 road games, and 1-6 against the spread following a loss. Cleveland is 4-0 against the spread against the NBA Northwest, 11-5 against the spread following a win, and 1-4 against the spread against a team with a winning record.
The Cavs are favored by two here and I see them getting the cover on the road as Portland simply can’t put the ball through the hoop right now and it will be tough to be Cleveland without putting up points.
