With a Tuesday loss to the Memphis Grizzlies, the Los Angeles Lakers fall to 1-6 on the season and are still looking for their first road win of the year. Defense continues to be the Lakers downfall, as they’re allowing teams to shoot 48.4 percent from the field and allowed 52.6 percent shooting against Memphis. Defensive efforts like that simply isn’t going to fly, especially considering the Los Angeles Lakers have lost 19 of their last 21 games when allowing 100 or more points. Offensively, Kobe Bryant is 17-46 from the field in his last two games and Carlos Boozer has racked up 36 points and 13 rebounds in his last two contests. Jordan Hill has been the Lakers most consistent player with two double doubles in his last three games and providing effort at both ends of the court. The Lakers are being a lot more competitive but need to tighten up defensively in order to win.
The New Orleans Pelicans have won two of their last three games and hope to improve to 3-1 at home. The Pelicans strength has been their rebounding, as they’re averaging 45.8 boards a game, including 14.2 offensive rebounds per game. Offensively, the Pelicans are averaging 99.5 points on 42.4 percent shooting from the field. The New Orleans Pelicans have won five of their last seven games when scoring 100 or more points. Anthony Davis is averaging 24.8 points and 13 rebounds, while Ryan Anderson is chipping in 16.2 points on 42.5 percent shooting from beyond the arc. Omer Asik has proven to be a big addition for New Orleans, as he’s produced 28 rebounds and two blocks in his last three games. The Pelicans have enough young talent in place to continue to be a team worth keeping an eye on.
The Lakers are 3-7 ATS in their last 10 road games and 1-6-1 ATS in their last 8 vs. NBA Southwest. The Pelicans are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 home games and 4-11-1 ATS in their last 16 vs. NBA Pacific. The Lakers are 7-3 ATS in the last 10 meetings in New Orleans, while the underdog is 23-11 ATS in the last 34 meetings.
As I mentioned before, the Lakers are slowly starting to play better and are hungry to get back in the win column. The Lakers took the Grizzlies down to the wire on Tuesday and this game is a bit of a step down. Look for LA to keep this game under single digits once again.
