The Dallas Mavericks push for a fifth straight win tonight when they visit the Milwaukee Bucks.
The Dallas Mavericks have been one of the best offensive teams all season and they showed that once again last night, clawing their way past the Bulls in a 132-129 double overtime thriller. Monta Ellis led the way with a season-high 38 points, while Dirk Nowitzki had 22 points and 10 assists and Chandler Parsons had 24 points as the Mavs fought overcame the tough Bulls in one of the best games of the season. Dallas has plenty of room for improvement on the defensive end where they rank pretty low in rebounds per game and points allowed, but the scary thing is that they're already ranked first in points per game and are still improving with every game. With the win, Dallas improves to 14-5 on the season and 7-3 on the road.
Meanwhile, the Milwaukee Bucks don't have a record to match the Mavs, but they've actually been playing some genuinely good basketball this season. Last night against the highly touted Cavaliers, Brandon Knight scored 27 points and eight assists while Jabari Parker added 22 points on 11 of 15 shooting in a tightly contested 111-108 loss at Cleveland. Obviously the Cavs were always favorites to win at home, but the Bucks continue to impress me this season, beating the lesser teams in the league while still staying competitive for most of the games against the more elite teams. Even with the loss, the Bucks are still above .500 with a 10-9 overall record, which is just five wins short of their total for the 2013-14 season.
In ATS trends, the Mavs are 4-1 ATS in their last five games against a team with a winning record and 19-8 ATS in their last 27 games overall, while the Bucks are 8-1 ATS in their last nine games following a loss and 4-1 ATS in their last five games overall.
Head to head, the Mavs are 4-1 ATS in the last five meetings overall but just 3-10 ATS in the last 13 meetings in Milwaukee.
I was almost on auto-bet for the Mavs in this game, but I have to keep reminding myself that the Bucks are actually a decent team this season.
Sure, this young squad is due for a slide eventually this season, but I actually think they'll be competitive against this Mavs team coming off a double overtime game. Give me Milwaukee with the points in this one.
