The New Orleans Pelicans look to avoid back to back losses at Staples Center as they take on the Los Angeles Lakers tonight.
The Los Angeles Lakers have lost six of their last eight overall and are looking to avoid a third straight loss after getting thumped by the Celtics by 113-96 on Friday. Kobe Bryant led the scoring with 22 points while Nick Young added 16 points off the bench, but this game was over before the fourth quarter as the Celtics' starters combined for 88 points to easily take down the Lakers. As a team, the Lakers shot just 41.3 percent which looks even worse when you consider that the Celtics are 28th in the league in points allowed. The rumours are now swirling that coach Byron Scott will start looking to change up the starting lineup, but the Lakers don't exactly have many options on the bench other than Ed Davis and Nick Young.

Meanwhile, the New Orleans Pelicans have been going through their own struggles lately, losing five of their last six and coming off a 120-100 beating against the Clippers just last night. In a see-saw type of game, the Pelicans fell behind by 16 at the end of the first quarter but stormed back to level the game at halftime. Unfortunately, the rest of the game was one-way traffic as the Clippers outscored the Pelicans by 66-46 in a dominant second half. Anthony Davis recovered from a rough start to the game to finish with 26 points while Ryan Anderson added 16 off the bench, but nobody else could get it going as the Pelicans dropped to 8-9 overall and 3-7 on the road.
In ATS trends, the Pelicans are 5-0 ATS in their last five games playing on zero days rest and 5-2-1 ATS in their last eight games against a team with a losing record, while the Lakers are 4-9-2 ATS in their last 15 home games and 1-4 ATS in their last five against a team with a losing record.
Head to head, the Pelicans are 4-1 ATS in the last five meetings in Los Angeles and the Road team is 24-9 ATS in the last 33 meetings.
The Lakers have definitely improved over the past couple weeks, but they're still a long way from being a reliable bet on any given night, because you never know what you're going to get from them. Meanwhile, the Pelicans haven't been world beaters lately, but have already beaten the Lakers by 109-102 back on Nov 12 and I'm expecting more of the same.
