The Boston Celtics host the New York Knicks in a battle of struggling Eastern conference teams.
The New York Knicks are a dreadful 4-20 on the year with a 1-11 mark away from home. The lone road win actually came in the season opener to shock the Cavaliers, but the entire season has been downhill since that upset. New York enters this contest on a ten game losing streak, with their last win coming on November 22nd against the Sixers. The Knicks are averaging just 93.8 points per game on offense to rank 27th in the league and the rebounding hasn’t been much better with a ranking of 29th. PF Carmelo Anthony leads the team in scoring with 22.9 points per game, but he’s questionable to play in this contest with a knee injury. The Knicks’ second leading scorer and top rebounder is Amar'e Stoudemire, who averages 13.3 points and 7.5 rebounds despite averaging just 25.3 minutes per game. J.R. Smith is averaging just 10.3 points per game and is also unlikely to suit up for this contest with a heel injury. Defensively the Knicks allow 99.7 points per game to rank 15th in the league, but honestly that number could be worse if the team didn’t spend so much time on offense struggling to find shots and limiting total possessions.

The Boston Celtics are 7-13 on the year and have yet to develop a home court edge with a 5-7 mark thus far at TD Garden. The Celtics enter this game on a two game losing streak, but prior to that they rattled off three consecutive wins at home which breeds optimism for taking care of business in this spot. The Celtics can score the basketball ranking 6th in the league with 104.7 points per game and also get it done on the glass ranking 9th with 44.1 rebounds per game. Leading the charge for Boston are PG Rajon Rondo with 10.8 assists, 8.5 points and 7.6 rebounds per game, SF Jeff Green with 19.6 points and 4.5 rebounds per game and PF Jared Sullinger with 14.9 points and 8.5 rebounds per game. The Celtics have some nice young depth on their team to contribute on offense but the defense is suspect ranking 28th while allowing 106.8 points per game.
The Celtics don't find themselves as a big favorite very often which is possibly why we see this number at seven and not higher. I'll take my chances with a Boston team that I at least know can score against a Knicks team that doesn't even have a stable roster from an injury perspective.
