TV:

Today marks the official beginning of the 2015 calendar year for most of the NBA, since we only got a couple of games yesterday. We’ll have 11 more in the coming hours, so in the meantime let’s check out some of the notable happenings and players out there so we can get up to speed before tip-off.

Bulls-Nuggets: Derrick Rose hasn’t been able to find his shot this week, but it came back just in time for the Bulls to beat the Nuggets at United Center last night. He posted 17 points overall, with 13 of those coming in the fourth quarter, during the 106-101 victory.
Jimmy Butler had another strong game on 26 points, while Pau Gasol logged 17 points, nine boards and a career-high nine blocks. That was part of a franchise record 18 blocks for Chicago as a team.
The Nuggets are now a miserable 4-12 on the road this season.

Kings-Timberwolves: In yesterday’s other game, the Kings were able to outlast the Timberwolves by a margin of 110-107. Minnesota overcame a 13-point deficit late in this one, but couldn’t close it out.
Rudy Gay managed 21 points with six rebounds and five assists here, while Demarcus Cousins logged 19 points and seven rebounds.
It was Minnesota’s 10th straight loss.

The Lakers’ Kobe Bryant didn’t practice yesterday, but the expectation is that he’ll be playing in tonight’s game against the Grizzlies. Bryant was receiving treatment yesterday which caused him to miss the session.

DeMar DeRozan of the Raptors was able to practice a bit yesterday. He hasn’t played since November 28 thanks to a groin injury. The general expectation around the team is that he’ll be back during the team’s upcoming home-stand, which begins on the 8th.
