The Denver Nuggets look to snap a four game skid as they host the Utah Jazz on Friday night from the Pepsi Center in Denver.
The Denver Nuggets are 20-37 on the year and in the midst of an extreme slide. The Nuggets enter as losers of four straight, after amassing losing streaks of six and seven games prior. Home court hasn’t been enough of an edge for Denver this season, with the team just 12-16 in such contests. Ty Lawson is keeping up his numbers of 17 points and ten assists, but the scoring from teammates hasn’t been consistent. Danilo Gallinari has been hot from deep of late, going 11-22 over the last three games. Will Barton broke out last game with 22 points, and could be a bigger contributor moving forward especially in home games when the Nuggets use the altitude to their advantage with transition and frequent substitutions. The Nuggets are far from effective defensively allowing 104.3 points per game to rank 27th.

The Utah Jazz are just 21-35 on the year, but they’ve won four of their last six games entering this contest. The road hasn’t been kind to the Jazz, with a mark of just 9-19 on the year. The Jazz suffered a letdown last time out, losing to the Lakers 100-97 after a pair of strong wins over the Blazers and Spurs in the two games prior. Derrick Favors and Gordon Hayward continue to be steady producers for the team, but the bench players should rotate plenty to close out the year as the organization figures out exactly what pieces they have moving forward. Former Duke star Rodney Hood is back from injury and figures to see minutes here, and Trey Burke has of course shown his potential as well over the past season despite turning the ball over too often and taking ill-advised shots. The Jazz rank 8th in the league defensively while conceding just 97.5 points per game.
The Nuggets are a tough team to back but I see them snapping out of their funk in a winnable home game here even if it leads to another losing streak come next week. Best to tread lightly given both teams are just playing for pride and to field the best roster possible for next season.
