The defense minded Utah Jazz allow just 95 points per game to rank as the top defensive squad in the game but struggle to score at less then 95 points. The Jazz have dropped three in a row with the offense continuing to struggle in Wednesday’s 92-89 loss to visiting Portland. The Jazz exploded for a 37 point 4th quarter but their downfall was a 12 point first from which they never recovered. Derrick Favors was the big gun for the attack with a contest high 26 points and 13 rebounds on 9-19 shooting while Trey Burke provided some more punch with 22 points on 9-19 from the field. Rudy Gobert added 12 points and ten boards with Trevor Booker netting ten points but the offense lacked help for Favors and Burke.
The Denver Nuggets lone goal left in the season is to overtake Utah for third in the Northwest although the team needs a reversal of fortunes as losers in four of five. The Nuggets are looking to bounce back from a 99-85 home loss to struggling Philadelphia on Wednesday night. The Nuggets suffered through a complete meltdown during the 4th with the 76ers outscoring the home team 27-9. The offense has been dependable for the most part but were held to 34.5% with just one player approaching 50% shooting. Ty Lawson led the offense with 19 points and six assists on 6-16 from the field followed by a 16 point, eleven rebound effort from Wilson Chandler on 4-14 from the floor. Jameer Nelson was the only other double digit scorer with 12 points on 6-16 with three others scoring between 8-9 points.
The Jazz are 4-1-1 ATS in their last 6 road games vs. a team with a losing home record and 6-2 ATS in their last 8 games following a ATS loss. Utah are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 Friday games and 5-2-2 ATS in their last 9 road games. The Nuggets are 7-0 ATS in their last 7 games playing on 1 days rest and 5-2 ATS in their last 7 vs. Western Conference. Denver are 9-4 ATS in their last 13 games overall and 23-49-2 ATS in their last 74 games vs. a team with a losing S.U. record. Neither team looks attractive as a betting opportunity but I’ll take a shot with the points…
