The Portland Trailblazers have been sitting atop the Northwest with a four game lead over Oklahoma City. The Trailblazers have both scoring and defensive ability but neither has been on the same page often over the past week as the team has lost five straight before getting in the win column with a 92-89 victory at scoring impaired Utah on Wednesday. The defense survived a 37 point burst from the Jazz over the final 12 minutes with 12 points allowed in the first. Damian Lillard paced the offense with 12 points, eight boards and 12 helpers on 6-16 shooting while LaMarcus Aldridge added 19 points and nine rebounds on 7-18 from the field. Dorell Wright netted 15 points and posted five yanks with three others supplying 7-8 points.
The Phoenix Sun can best be described as a team that needs to light up the scoreboard simply because soring is what this squad does best while defending is not a strength. The Suns have been surging with four consecutive victories until a 108-99 defeat to visiting Sacramento put at an end to the good times. The defense could not control the Kings who nailed over 49% of their looks while Sacramento connected at less then 44% and were done in by a 6-25 performance from long range. Markieff Morris gave Phoenix 24 points and seven assists on 9-16 marksmanship with Eric Bledsoe and Marcus Morris netting 19 points apiece with Bledsoe adding five yanks. Archie Goodwin tossed in 15 points but nobody else scored more then six points so the team lacked some secondary production.
The Trail Blazers are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 vs. NBA Pacific and 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games following a S.U. win. Portland are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 road games and 1-5 ATS in their last 6 Friday games. The Suns are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 after allowing 100 points or more in their previous game and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall. Phoenix are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 vs. Western Conference and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 vs. NBA Northwest. Portland is the better team but Phoenix does well at home and has been playing better of late…
