The San Antonio Spurs and the Los Angeles Clippers meet for Game 2 at the Staples Center tonight.
The Los Angeles Clippers kicked off their championship campaign with a near-perfect performance in Game 1, beating the Spurs by 107-92 thanks to big games from their best players. Chris Paul led the way with 32 points, seven rebounds and six assists while shoot 13 of 20 while Blake Griffin fille the stat sheet with 26 points, 12 rebounds and six assists, but the real icing on the cake was the play of Jamal Crawford who scored 17 points in just 23 minutes off the bench. As a team, the Clippers shot 51.3 percent from the field, 10 of 18 from the three-point line while holding the Spurs to 36.6 percent shooting which are all great numbers, but the biggest difference on the court was the hunger and enthusiasm shown by both teams.
USA TODAY Sports
As for the Spurs, Kawhi Leonard had a nice game of 18 points but received next to no support as Tim Duncan chipped in with just 11 points while Tony Parker added just 10. It's so rare for the Spurs to have such a poor shooting game across the board because with a roster this deep, someone usually steps up and has a big game, but the reserves were all very disappointing, especially Boris Diaw who scored just five points on two of 12 shooting in 28 minutes off the bench. Obviously, the Spurs need to bounce back to be a factor in Game 2 or they'll be down 2-0 before they can blink.
In ATS trends, the Spurs are 4-1 ATS in their last five games following a loss and 1-7 ATS in their last eight Conference Quarterfinals games, while the Clippers are 3-10 ATS in their last 13 Conference Quarterfinals games and 1-5 ATS in their last six home games.
Head to head, the Over is 7-3 in the last 10 meetings and the Underdog is 10-3 ATS in the last 13 meetings overall.
It was quite an uncharacteristically poor performance from the Spurs so you can bet that they'll bounce back tonight, but the Clippers really thrive on winning momentum so I have them winning again, this time by just single digits.
