Position: Small Forward
Career Stats: 12.1 ppg, five rpg, 1.3 assists and 0.6 steals
Strengths: Sam Dekker is an athletic forward who has a solid inside-outside game. Dekker shot 34.8 percent from three and can really go on a tear when he’s hot. Dekker has great footwork and touch around the basket. Dekker has improved his ball handling and can get to the cup with ease. Dekker is an unselfish player and averaged just one turnover per game in his career. Dekker can defend multiple positions and always helps out on the glass. Dekker is a good perimeter defender and has quick hands. Dekker has a high basketball IQ and doesn’t take plays off. Sam Dekker is a tough player who only wants what’s best for the team.
Weaknesses: Sam Dekker is a bit of a tweener and you’d like to see him get a little bit stronger. Dekker has an inconsistent motor and can disappear at times. Dekker isn’t really comfortable shooting off the dribble. Dekker can struggle defending players more athletic than him. Dekker shot just 69.5 percent from the free throw line, which isn’t terrible but can be improved.
Projection: Sam Dekker is a very solid prospect, as he can give you offense, set his teammates up and is always going to show up defensively. Dekker could quickly develop into an NBA starter and carve out a solid career due to everything he brings to the table. If I’m a team with a middle pick in round one, I’m highly considering picking Dekker.
