Strengths: Juwan Staten is an athletic and one of the quicker guards in this class. Staten gets to the basket easily and is able to finish through contact. Staten has improved his mid-range game and could knock down the NBA three. Staten has improved his ball security and his ball handling. Staten isn’t afraid of the big moments and was a leader on the court for West Virginia. Staten loves setting his teammates up and usually makes the right basketball play. Staten is a feisty defender with quick hands and is relentless when playing press defense. Juwan Staten is a team guy who will do whatever it takes to win games.
Weaknesses: Juwan Staten is extremely small for the point guard position. Staten needs to improve his outside shot and his jumper overall. Staten is very inconsistent and can sometimes disappear for long stretches of games. Staten shot just 70.5 percent from the free throw line. Staten will be 23 years old in late May.
Projection: Juwan Staten is worth a second round pick or at least a camp invite. Staten is a great set up guy on the offensive end and is capable of being an above-average defender at the next level. Staten certainly has his flaws, but he does a lot of things right and brings a lot of experience to the table given his college career. Staten deserves an honest shot to play in the NBA.
