Career Stats: 16.1 ppg, 5.2 rpg, 2.6 assists and one steal.
Strengths: D.J. Newbill has good size for the NBA with the ability to add more upper-body strength. Newbill is a crafty scorer who finishes strong through contact. Newbill has improved his mid-range game and can knockdown the NBA three. Newbill shot 72.4 percent from the free throw line. Newbill has great scoring instincts and wants the ball in his hands. Newbill has quick hands defensively and closes out well. Newbill is a terrific rebounder for his position. Newbill takes great care of the basketball and sees the floor well. D.J. Newbill is a good kid with a great work ethic and comes with zero off-the-court issues.
Weaknesses: D.J. Newbill doesn’t have great length and is a limited athlete. Newbill doesn’t jump high enough on his jump shot. Newbill doesn’t have great lateral quickness, which hurts him defensively. Newbill is already 23 years old.
Projection: D.J. Newbill likely isn’t going to get drafted, but he has potential to play somewhere at the professional level. Newbill is a solid offensive player and is an ultimate team guy who just wants to win. Newbill’s lack of athleticism and issues defensively are what hold him back from the NBA right away. Still, Newbill would provide a spark off the bench and could find himself in the league at some point.
