The Denver Nuggets have the seventh overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft, and they can’t go wrong with any selection considering they need help just about everywhere. When teams are in the position the Nuggets are in, I like to forget need and simply select the best player available.
After my first six picks, that puts Willie Cauley-Stein in a Denver uniform.

Cauley-Stein is a true center at 7’1”, a great athlete and somebody who will be able to protect the rim on a consistent basis. Cauley-Stein doesn’t have much of an offensive game, but considering Denver won’t be a contender for at least a couple of years, it’s worth the patience in that department. Besides, DeAndre Jordan doesn’t have an offensive game right now, and we see how effective he’s become for the Los Angeles Clippers.
Cauley-Stein would give the Nuggets a true center and take a lot of the pressure off of Kenneth Faried, who was the only Denver player with at least 500 rebounds. The Nuggets were also 21st in the league in blocked shots, proving that an upgrade defensively in the paint wouldn’t be a bad thing.
Speaking of upgrades, Jusuf Nurkic is fresh off of knee surgery and will be out for three to four months. Also, while playing well in a limited role, Nurkic may be better coming off the bench anyway. Offensive limitations or not, Cauley-Stein would be the starting center in Denver if selected.
It’s been awhile since the Nuggets have had a true cornerstone to build around and a guy that makes them competitive night in and night out. Cauley-Stein is a tough kid who plays hard and would add some serious hope for the future of this team probably for the first time since Carmelo Anthony.
I really like Cauley-Stein becoming a Denver Nugget.
