June 5, 2015
The 2015 NBA Finals are officially underway, and it goes without saying that it was a near-intolerable length of time between playoff rounds this year. In any case, let’s check out some of the notable players and situations making headlines today.
Warriors-Cavaliers: The Warriors and Cavaliers certainly didn’t disappoint the NBA-starved last night. Game 1 of the Finals went into overtime, with Golden State coming out on top 108-100.
Stephen Curry led the way for the home team with 28 points and eight assists in what was the Warriors first Finals game in 40 years.
On the other side, LeBron James had a monster game with 44 points, but he and the team missed 12 straight during a crucial stretch in the fourth quarter and overtime. Making matters worse, Kyrie Irving injured his knee once again and didn’t return to the game.
We’ll get another dose in Game 2 Sunday night.

The Mavericks’ Dirk Nowitzki is planning on taking the court for his home country Germany this September during the EuroBasket tournament.
Germany will actually be hosting one of the group stage rounds, which factored into Nowitzki’s decision.
This is something of a surprise, however, since Nowitzki supposedly retired from basketball at the national level in 2011.
He’s coming off 17.3 PPG and 5.9 RPG averages in Dallas this past year.
One other Mavericks note today: SF Chandler Parsons continues to recover from his arthroscopic knee surgery, and he’s reportedly now off crutches--something that wasn’t possible just a few weeks back.
Parsons should be ready to go and back to 100 percent by the time the season rolls around. He posted 15.7 PPG with 4.9 RPG in his 66 appearances during 2014-15.
