The Phoenix Mercury and Indiana Fever play Friday night at the Bankers Life Fieldhouse.
The Phoenix Mercury look to bounce back after a loss to the New York Liberty on Thursday. The Mercury are averaging 66.5 points on 36.8 percent shooting and are allowing 69.5 points on 40.6 percent shooting. DeWanna Bonner is averaging 21.5 points and six rebounds while Candice Dupree is averaging 13 points and 6.5 rebounds. Monique Currie is the third double-digit scorer and Leilani Mitchell is dishing three assists. The Phoenix Mercury are coming off a loss in which they shot just 29.2 percent from the field and 21.7 percent from beyond the arc. Needless to say, the Mercury can’t wait for Brittney Griner to return from suspension. This is the Mercury’s second road game of the season and second game in a week.
USA TODAY Sports
The Indiana Fever are still looking for their first victory after an 0-3 start. The Indiana Fever are averaging 73.3 points on 39.8 percent shooting and are allowing 86.3 points on 44.7 percent shooting. Marissa Coleman is averaging 13.3 points and two assists while Tamika Catchings is averaging 13 points and seven rebounds. Natalie Achonwa is grabbing five rebounds and Layshia Clarendon is dishing two assists. Despite the slow start, the Fever have four double-digit scorers and are shooting 35.8 percent from beyond the arc. The problem for the Fever has been a lack of defense, as they’ve allowed no less than 78 points in their first three games. Erlana Larkins is questionable with a knee injury.
The Mercury are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games playing on 0 days rest and 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games following a S.U. loss. The Fever are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 vs. Western Conference and 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games overall. The under is 4-0 in the last 4 meetings.
Not sure how you can back the Mercury after they stunk the joint up and now play the end of a back-to-back. I like the Fever to get on track here with a big performance from Catchings.
