NBA Player Updates 6/29: The Latest News from Around the League, Off-Season Schedule and More
June 29, 2015
The NBA has been pretty busy this weekend in the wake of the draft. While we’re gearing up for free agency and a big day today, let’s check out some of the notable headlines in the news.
The Magic declined guard Ben Gordon’s deal for the upcoming season this weekend. It would have been for $4.5 million.
Gordon will now hit the free agent market. He’s coming off a 2014-15 in which he posted a 6.2 PPG average.

The Timberwolves are trying to keep forward Robbie Hummel around another year. They extended him a qualifying offer yesterday, which means they’ll be able to match any offer he gets from another team in free agency.
Hummel played 45 games last year and posted averages of 4.4 PPG and 3.0 RPG.
Michael Beasley is now destined for the free agent market. The Heat have bypassed his option for next year.
Beasley logged 24 appearances last year and had averages of 8.8 PPG and 3.7 RPG.
Yesterday’s big news centered around LeBron James. He informed Cavaliers representatives that he’ll be opting out of his contract and becoming a free agent.
This doesn’t come as much of a surprise, really. James had long been expected to decline his player option for next year. He’ll become a free agent, and most people are expecting him to re-sign in Cleveland.
In other restricted free agent news, the Jazz’s Joe Ingles received a qualifying offer from the team this weekend.
Ingles was a pretty reliable player last year but averaged only 5.0 PPG and hit only 41 percent of his shots.
