NBA Player Updates 7/9: The Latest News from Around the League, Off-Season Schedule and More
July 9, 2015
It’s been a very busy week in the NBA, and we’re sure to see more big news coming out of the league in the next few days. That said, let’s check out some of the headlines from this morning.
The Warriors inked their first-round 2015 draft pick yesterday. UCLA product Kevon Looney, who was the No. 30 overall selection, averaged 11.6 PPG and 9.2 RPG last year.

The Nuggets’ Jusuf Nurkic still has his return up in the air. He’s coming off a torn patella tendon in his knee and there’s no timetable for him just yet.
Nurkic went under the knife way back in May. His initial window was around four months. He may or may not be able to get back for camp--it’s really anyone’s guess right now.
The Hornets have a couple of injury concerns going on right now. Guard P.J. Hairston is suffering from a contusion in his left shoulder. He’s currently day-to-day, but the good news is that the X-rays came back negative.
Also, guard Troy Daniels had to sit out yesterday’s Summer League game. He’s dealing with a strained right shoulder and is also day-to-day.
The Lakers’ Jabari Brown is dealing with a laceration on his left eye, stemming from a recent practice for Summer League.
Brown likely won’t be out on the floor tomorrow or Saturday. The team’s going to check him out this weekend and see how he’s healing up.
So…DeAndre Jordan is staying with the Clippers now, apparently. Word broke late last night that he had broken an agreement with the Mavericks and decided to stay put in Los Angeles. This news comes after heavy lobbying from the Clippers, which apparently convinced Jordan to stay.
This is going to be talked about and dissected for days, so it’ll be interesting to hear everyone’s story about how Jordan decided to turn 180 degrees this off-season--twice.
NBA Off-Season Schedule: Now that the season is over, we can spend the rest of our summer prepping for the 2015-16 campaign. Let’s check out a few key dates from the off-season period.
June 25: NBA Draft
July 1: Free Agency Period Begins
July 8: Moratorium Lifts
Early July: NBA Summer League
