The Philadelphia 76ers and Boston Celtics open their season Wednesday at the TD Garden.
The Philadelphia 76ers have won a combined 37 games the last two seasons and continue to preach patience under coach Brett Brown. It’s going to be another tough year for the 76ers, especially with Joel Embiid, Tony Wroten and Kendall Marshall out until further notice. Besides a couple of promising young players in Nerlens Noel and Jahlil Okafor, there’s just not a lot of talent on this Philadelphia roster. In order to remain at least competitive, the 76ers have to hope Robert Covington can improve his field goal percentage and Nik Stauskas breaks out of his shell in his second season. Regardless, it’s going to be another long season for the Philadelphia 76ers. Nik Stauskas is questionable with a foot injury.

The Boston Celtics made the playoffs last season with 40 wins and have a very bright future under coach Brad Stevens. The Celtics have a lot of nice pieces in Avery Bradley, Marcus Smart, Isiah Thomas and Jae Crowder. The Celtics also went out and added some veterans with playoff experience in David Lee and Amir Johnson. I also love the draft selection of shooter R.J. Hunter, as the Celtics need an offensive boost off the bench. Bottom line is that the Boston Celtics are a team that’s on the rise and could be a top-five team in the East if everything clicks this season. The sky apparently isn’t falling in Boston after all considering this franchise won just 25 games in 2013. Kelly Olynyk is suspended for this game.
The 76ers are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 road games and 1-5 ATS in their last 6 vs. NBA Atlantic. The Celtics are 7-1 ATS in their last 8 vs. NBA Atlantic and 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games overall. The 76ers are 0-4 ATS in the last 4 meetings.
The 76ers are going to lose a lot of games this season by double digits. This is likely one of those games. The 76ers are relying on two players with little NBA experience, and the Celtics are a team that just made the playoffs and is eager to prove they belong. Boston should cruise against a Philly team desprate for anything positive.
