The Washington Wizards and Orlando Magic open their season Wednesday at the Amway Center.
The Washington Wizards are looking for three straight playoff appearances under coach Randy Wittman, as they’ve combined for 90 wins the last two years. The Wizards will once again be led by one of the better backcourts in the NBA with Bradley Beal and John Wall. Wall has shown progress each season and is a sleeper MVP candidate for me. Otto Porter Jr. is another young player who is starting to grow up for Washington and Marcin Gortat continues to be a reliable center in the middle with eight years under his belt. The Washington Wizards have pieces in place to be a sneaky contender in the East but need a boost off their bench if they’re truly going to take that next step this season. Nene Hilario is questionable with a calf injury.

The Orlando Magic are looking for their first playoff berth since 2011 and have a new head coach in Scott Skiles. The Magic are a young, talented team that’s built for the future, as players such as Victor Oladipo, Elfrid Payton, Nikola Vucevic and Tobias Harris have bright futures in this league. Aaron Gordon should return from injury soon and Mario Hezonja is an exciting rookie who will be on some highlight films this season. The Orlando Magic have enough potential to sneak into the playoffs this season, it’s just a question of these young players growing up in time to make it happen. Keep a very close eye on the Magic this season. Elfrid Payton and Aaron Gordon are questionable with injuries.
The Wizards are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 road games and 9-20-2 ATS in their last 31 vs. NBA Southeast. The Magic are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 home games and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games playing on 3 or more days rest. The Wizards are 10-4-1 ATS in the last 15 meetings.
We're going to make a lot of money on the Magic this season. However, Orlando has some key players banged up already and the Wizards are a veteran group that's ready to get off to a fast start. Give the Magic a month or so to gell, and then we can start hammering away.
