Pistons-Hawks: The Pistons bagged a surprise victory in their opener last night against the Hawks in Atlanta, taking it 106-94. All five Detroit starters were in double-figures for points here, with Kentavious Caldwell-Pope leading the way on 21. Andre Drummond bagged 19 rebounds, helping the Pistons to a 59-40 edge in that department. Drummond also had 18 points, while Marcus Morris put up 18 points and 10 rebounds.
Detroit missed 20 of their last 22 shots, but Atlanta couldn’t take advantage of the lull and fell by 12.

Bulls-Cavaliers: The Chicago-Cleveland matchup was one of the most interesting in the opening-night schedule, and it certainly didn’t disappoint. Pau Gasol came up with a couple of big defensive plays late to help earn the Bulls a win 97-95 at United Center.
Nikola Mirotic posted 19 points, with Derrick Rose logging 18 of his own. It was the first win for new coach Fred Hoiberg.
On the other side, LeBron James put up 25 points with 10 rebounds while Mo Williams put up 19 points and seven helpers.
Warriors-Pelicans: This was another intriguing opening-night matchup, featuring the defending champs against a young up-and-coming squad. The Warriors got the best of the Pelicans here, thanks to 40 points from MVP Stephen Curry, on the way to a 111-95 victory.
Curry bagged seven of his first nine shot attempts, with four 3-pointers mixed in there. He’d finish the first quarter with a whopping 24 points. On the other side, Anthony Davis shot just 4-for-20 with 18 points overall.
