The New Orleans Pelicans look to avoid a second straight loss as they visit the Portland Trailblazers tonight.

The Pelicans were always major underdogs against the defending champs last night, but they looked pretty poor in last night's 111-95 road loss. Kendrick Perkins provided the early offense with 10 points while Ish Smith had a nice game of 17 points and nine assists in 38 minutes off the bench, but the Pelicans desperately needed more from Anthony Davis who started the game making just one of his first 16 shots to finish with 18 points on four of 20 shooting. Eric Gordon wasn't much better than Davis, scoring 14 points and shooting just five of 17 from the field and Jrue Holiday didn't see any court time at all as the Pelicans look to ease him back onto the court.

Meanwhile, the Trailblazers will enter the season in full rebuild mode as they shipped off their entire starting lineup except for Damian Lillard. LaMarcus Aldridge, Nicolas Batum, Wesley Matthews and Robin Lopez are all in different uniforms which means that Lillard is set for a monster season, statistically spreaking. Outside of Lillard, the only other player I'm expecting big things from is CJ McCollum who has just been killing it in preseason and is expected to start at shooting guard especially with the injury to the newly acquired Gerald Henderson.

In ATS trends, the Pelicans are 4-1 ATS in their last five against the Western Conference and 2-5 ATS in their last seven road games, while the Blazers are 1-7-1 ATS in their last nine against the Western Conference and 1-4 ATS in their last five games playing on three or more days rest.

Head to head, the Pelicans are 1-4 ATS in the last five meetings overall while the Under is 4-0 in the last four meetings.

The new-look young Blazers squad will be all fired up to start their season with a win, but I just get the feeling that Davis will be looking to bounce back from last night's horrible shooting performance. I'm taking the Pelicans to cause the minor upset and grab their first win of the season.
