The Portland Trailblazers hit the road to take on the Phoenix Suns on NBA Friday.
The Trailblazers kicked off their season with an impressive win over the Pelicans, beating them by 112-94 in a romp on Wednesday. Damian Lillard had a nice outing of 21 points and 11 assists but the night belonged to sophomore CJ McCollum who lit up the scoreboard with a career-high 37 points on 14 of 22 shooting, including 6 of 9 from the three-point line. It was Portland’s 15th straight home-opening victory, surpassing Boston’s record of 14 (1979-92).

Meanwhile, the Suns looked toothless in their season opener, losing to the Mavericks by 111-95 in a rout. Brandon Knight led the team in scoring with 15 points, Eric Bledsoe had just 13 points and the bench combined for 56 points but it was never going to be enough as the Suns shot just 39.1 percent from the field as a team and just 6 of 24 from the three-point line. Overall, it was a pretty poor performance from the Suns who fell behind by as many as 28 points before some garbage buckets kept the score respectable.
In ATS trends, the Blazers are 2-7-1 ATS in their last 10 games overall and 0-6-1 ATS in their last seven road games, while the Suns are 4-1-1 ATS in their last six games following a loss and 1-4-1 ATS in their last six home games.
Head to head, the Blazers are 4-0 ATS in the last four meetings overall and 2-6 ATS in the last eight meetings in Phoenix.
I’m definitely expecting a better outing from the Suns who were poor in their season opener, but I like the Blazers to stay hot and grab their second win of the season behind their dynamic backcourt duo of Lillard and McCollum.
