The Miami Heat play host to the Dallas Mavericks at the AmericanAirlines Arena on New Year's Day.
The Heat will be eager to avoid a third straight loss after dropping a game at Memphis on Tuesday. Chris Bosh led the scoring with 22 points, Dwyane Wade added 19 points while Goran Dragic had 16 as the Heat rallied to force overtime against the Grizzlies, but leaked too many points in the extra period. Hassan Whiteside had a quiet game of just five points and could do little stop the Grizzlies' Marc Gasol who poured in 23 points. With the loss, Miami falls to 18-13 on the season and 5-6 on the road.

Meanwhile, the Mavericks have won six of their last eight and they'll be feeling pretty good after knocking off the league-leading Warriors for their fourth straight win overall. JJ Barea led the scoring with 23 points, Dirk Nowitzki added 18 points while Zaza Pachulia had 14 as the Mavs took full advantage of a Warriors team playing without Stephen Curry. With the marquee win, Dallas sends a message to the rest of the league and improves to 19-13 on the season and 10-5 at home.
In ATS trends, the Mavs are 5-1 ATS in their last six games overall and 4-13 ATS in their last 17 road games against a team above .500, while the Heat are 2-5-1 ATS in their last eight against a team with a winning record and 3-1-1 ATS in their last five against the Western Conference.
Head to head, the Mavericks are 16-4-1 ATS in the last 21 meetings in Miami and the road team is 20-4-2 ATS in the last 26 meetings overall.
The bookies have the Heat as slight favorites at home which seems fair enough, but I'm really liking how the Mavs have looked recently, especially in their last outing, so I'm taking the Mavs with the points in this one.
