NBA Player Updates 1/5: The Latest News from Around the League, Tonight's TV Schedule and More
January 5, 2016
The NBA is easing things up a bit tonight, with just four games on the schedule. We’ve got some good matchups mixed in there, though, so it’ll be a nice night to watch basketball. That said, let’s check out some of the notable players out there in the league.
Cavs-Raptors: Kyrie Irving was playing just his sixth game back from a broken kneecap, but he looked like his old self. He scored a season-high 25 points in this one, helping beat the Raptors 122-100.
Irving went 10-of-16 from the field with eight assists and six rebounds. LeBron James helped out with 20 points and seven assists in his 31 minutes on the floor. J.R. Smith added some long-range bombs with eight 3-pointers for 24 points.

Sixers-Timberwolves: Any time the Sixers win a game, it’s newsworthy. That was the case last night in Philly, when the team beat the visiting Timberwolves 109-99. It was their third win in the past six games.
Ish Smith posted 21 points and 11 assists here, while Richuan Holmes managed 17 points of his own.
The Sixers are still the worst team in the league, sitting at 4-33. That said, they are looking better these days.
Warriors-Hornets: The Warriors made a little more history last night en route to a 111-101 victory over the Hornets in Oakland.
Draymond Green bagged a triple-double here, and became the second Warriors player to ever post three straight. He had 13 points, 15 rebounds and 10 assists. Tom Gola also had three straight triple-doubles way back in the 1959-60 season.
Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson each scored 30 points here to round out a nice effort by the defending champs.
Rockets-Jazz: Houston had to work for it, but they were able to get a 93-91 victory over the Jazz in Salt Lake City last night.
The Rockets were down by 15 through 31 minutes of play, but were able to lean on James Harden down the stretch to take the victory. Harden would score 30 points overall, helping stop a four-game losing streak for Houston.
Dwight Howard also had a nice game with 16 points and 13 rebounds.
